The announcer roared—
"Ladies and Gentlemen! Presenting Buffalo Bill Cody! And his Rough Riders! They'll show you the real Wild West! The danger! The courage! The heartbreak! The triumph!"
Buffalo Bill bolted through the arena on his white horse. The crowd cheered. . . .
Next came a thundering drumbeat. Indians did a corn dance. And cowboys rode bucking broncos.
Annie interrupted Emma's thoughts. "It's time for your skit," she said.
Emma had forgotten! Fear gripped her.
"Oh, Annie!" she exclaimed. "Everything moves so fast out there. I can't do it!"
"You have to," Annie replied. "You promised . . . now go take your place. Hurry up!"
Emma did as she was told. "Annie's counting on me," she thought.
